When it comes to the Lake District, everyone automatically thinks of Windermere. Well it is a beautiful place. I get asked a lot, “where do you stay when you go to the Lakes?” Well, here are four of my favourites…
My favourite places to stay in and around Windermere. I have included places to suit all budgets, from luxury stays to budget get aways.
- The Cranleigh Church Suites – Luxury Stay. SATNAV – LA23 3DY. The Cranleigh Church Suites are in the perfect location. Right in the middle of Bowness-on-Windermere’s hustle and bustle (not quite like London but it does attract a lot of tourists). We have stayed in the Opulence suite and the Fantasy suite, both of which are decorated to a high finish, with funky velvet wall paper, TV’s built into the walls and of course, the very relaxing jacuzzi baths. Oh and I nearly forgot… iPad controls! I KNOW! You can control everything from the lighting, to the TV’s, oh and the 8ft cinema screen in the Fantasy suite. I didn’t warn you it would be this snazzy did I? We stayed in the Fantasy Suite for my Birthday and my partner surprised me with a balloon, champagne and a chocolate cake on arrival. You can add these little extras onto your room when booking. Unfortunately, no one under the age of 18 can stay at the Cranleigh.
- Windermere Boutique Hotel – Good Value break. SATNAV – LA23 2EQ. Just a ten to fifteen minute walk from the lake itself, the Windermere Boutique Hotel is in a great location. We stayed in the Sugar Suite, which had a spa like bathroom, complete with it’s own steam room and hot tub. There is a separate lounge area and bedroom. Again this hotel offers a range of extras such as, champagne, chocolates and scattered roses (saucy). This hotel makes for a perfect romantic break and is a little less pricey than the Cranleigh Suites. I only have one picture from this stay because I lost all my pictures on my old phone but follow the link to the website and you can browse all of the Hotel’s pictures.
- Craigholme Bed & Breakfast – Budget Getaway. SATNAV – LA23 2JS. A ten minute walk to the Lake, situated on one of the main roads leading down to the centre of Bowness. I haven’t stayed here yet but my partner and I want to head down to the Lakes in the next month or so for a photography trip and we’re planning on staying at the Craigholme. It gets amazing reviews online and looks perfect with lovely clean, modern rooms and a pretty good price. You can follow the link to have a look on their website for pictures and prices.
For something extra special, I have something of pure luxury… have a look at The Brimstone Hotel on the Langdale estate. This hotel is quite expensive but worth every single penny and perfect for an extra special occasion! Roughly about a 10/15 minute drive north of windermere. SATNAV – LA22 9JD
I have stayed here twice and it did not disappoint. I stayed in the Mezzanine Loft Suite, which is simply amazing. I mean stairs in a hotel room; amazing! We had room service for breakfast and tea, which we ate on our balcony. They have EVERYTHING you can imagine; A top of the range spa with Sauna, Relaxation rooms, Swimming Pool, Exercise Studio, Steam Room, Deluge Shower and much more. When you think of luxury stays, this is it. They have a “Boot Room”, which is kitted out with Arc’teryx walking gear so you can go out and explore even in the typical British rain. Honestly, I can not recommend this hotel enough, I have been lucky enough to stay in many hotels around the world and this is by far one of the best. Even if you go for just one night, you have to experience it. Have a look at some of my snaps:
There is also the Langdale Hotel, which is on the same grounds and part of the same group but a little less pricey. We stayed in the Ultimate Room 104… Elemis toiletries, that’s all I’m saying.
Just how lovely is this room decorated?
So, if you are looking to head to the Bowness-on-Windermere, have a look at these hotels and suites they really won’t disappoint. All of these stays are perfect if you have a special occasion coming up or you’re in need of a bit of luxury.
*Also, if you follow each of the hotels social media accounts, they sometimes have competitions and special offers throughout the year, it’s worth a look.
Happy Adventures 🙂
